State/Affiliate Contest Awards
All students participating in Kansas History Day receive statewide recognition and compete for medals, scholarships, and prizes. Medals are awarded to the top three entries in every category. The top two entries in each category receive an invitation to compete at National History Day in College Park, Maryland, in June.
Special awards and prizes are available to students whose entries address certain historical topics. These are open to students with a topical entries, regardless of how that entry places in category competition, so long as it meets the requirements listed for the award.
To be considered for a special award at the Kansas History Day State Contest, students must nominate their entry during the online registration process. An extra copy the nomination information, process paper, and annotated bibliography or historical paper must also be received by the registration deadline of the last Friday in March. Entries with incomplete information in the online system and/or for which the process paper, and annotated bibliography or historical paper are not received by the deadline date, will not be considered for an award. For those awards with more than 5 nominations, excluding the Dole Award, only finalists will be judged at the state contest. Nomination material should be sent to:
Kansas History Day Foundation

Topeka, KS 66614
Special awards are wonderful ways to recognize student achievement and to help worthy scholars defray the considerable expenses involved with traveling to national competition. If you or your organization would like to sponsor a scholarship — or if you know of an individual, group, or organization which might wish to be a Kansas History Day award sponsor — please contact Tracie Lamb, Kansas History Day Foundation Secretary/Treasurer, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
